How To Make The Most Out Of Everyday

We as a society live for the weekend. You can't scroll through any social media without seeing at least one plea for Friday to come quicker; or "Fri-yay" if you prefer the social media penned name. But in all reality, does living for the weekend really make sense? After all, you spend you life waiting for these two precious days, just for them to go by in the blink of an eye.

It's important that we learn to slow down and view every single day as a gift, and a pretty fantastic one at that. We need to start making sure each and every day fulfills it's potential, and this is how you can do that.

Think Positive About The Day Ahead.
(Now, I'm going to use the joyful day that is Monday for this point but should there be a day of the week you have an even deeper hatred for, feel free to drop it in there.)
Admit it, the word Monday makes your groan internally. The feeling of dread bubbles up inside of you whilst you consider "I wonder what crap I'm going to have to deal with today?". But have you ever considered that it may not be Monday's fault and the fault of the pants day lies with your negative mindset? Look at me getting all philosophical on you. Try waking up with a positive mindset; one of those "today is going to rock and I'm going to kick ass" mindsets, it will make your day 100 times better.

Do (At Least) One Thing You Love Each Day
We all have at least one past time that has the power to make you feel all warm and fuzzy. Be it reading, cooking, crafting, photography, exercise, or anything else that tickles your pickle. Try and dedicate at least a little bit of time each day to spend doing one of your hobbies. With the hustle and bustle of life it's easy to feel like there just aren't enough hours in the day for you to be able to set time aside for hobbies, but it's important to nurture the things that make you feel happy.

Don't Just Make Plans For The Weekend.
We all do it, we all focus on the weekend first when making plans with friends or family. And whilst that can be an absolutely splendid way to spend your weekend, give a little love and attention to your weekdays too. I know the weekdays don't really allow for as much free time as the end of the week does, but you should still be able to squeeze in time to see your family or to have drinks with the girls.

Stay Well Rested.
It's impossible to have a good productive day if you're stuck in a sleep-deprived daze. Try to go to bed at a good time every night, after spending an hour or two winding down and getting yourself ready for the land of nod. Having a good nights sleep will in turn make getting up in the morning 100 times easier and you'll be more ready to take on the day.

How To Find Time To Read In 2019

One of my new years resolutions is to read more. I've been a book worm since the good ol' days of learning to read with Biff, Chip and Kipper, but I find that as much as I love reading it's often something that's cast aside due to the chaos of adult life. So this year I'm going to make the effort to get my nose into a book more often.

Here's how you too can find time to read in 2019:

Always Carry A Book With You
Keep a book glued to your side and you'll be amazed about the amount of potential reading time that presents itself. I like to always keep a book in my bag ready for whenever the opportunity presents itself, be it during the commute, in the doctors waiting room or during a lunch break. Think of all the time in the day you spend scrolling through your phone, that's time that could be spent having a good read.

Don't Waste Your Reading Time On Books You Don't Like
We've all read those books which you can't help but feel a little bit meh about. You want to enjoy it but you're just not feeling it at all. I'm one of those people who doesn't like giving up on a book. I like to do my best to power through and finish it, but with some books this can be a pretty tedious and it leaves me not really wanting to read. Tackling this is simple: if you don't like the book, stop reading. You've given it a go, so say enough is enough and pick up a new title which will hopefully be more up your street. Reading time is precious; don't waste it on titles you don't love.

Make Reading Affordable
As much as I'd simply adore the opportunity to wander around Waterstones and have a good splurge on all of the titles that take my fancy, it simply isn't financially viable to buy brand new books on the regular. But how can you still add new titles to your to-read pile? Firstly, remember that your local library is your best friend. They often stock recent titles as well as your old favourites, bestsellers and tonnes of other literary gems you won't have even heard of. I'm also quite partial to a mooch around my local charity shops, having a peek at the titles which have been well-loved and then donated. Buying from charity shops means you can nab yourself some good-quality bargains, whilst also supporting good causes.

Get Yourself A To-Read List
I'm sure most (if not all) bookworms can relate to the feeling of having an ever-growing to-read pile taking over your home. My to-read pile is so extensive that it is split between my flat and my family home. In an effort to tackle this, I've written myself a list of all of the books I'm wanting to read in the hope that getting to actually tick them off a physical list challenges me to start working through the pile.

Welcoming 2019 With Open Arms

So this is it, we're closing the door on 2018. How on earth it's 2019 I don't know, but I'm ready to welcome the new year with open arms.

This is my contribution to the multitude of New Years themed posts that fill the blogosphere at this time of year. I wanted to take the opportunity to reflect on my aims for 2019; what I'm hoping to achieve and how I want to shape my life.

I can't say I've ever been one to stick to new years resolutions. I'm one to vow a year of healthy eating and then be found twenty minute later getting to second base with a tube of pringles. So I'm not going to sit here and claim that in 2019 I will drink my weight in water everyday, commit to clean eating, always have a spotless home and squat until I have a booty a Kardashian would be proud of, because none of those things are at all realistic.

I want to instead focus on my personal goals for 2019, all of which I've composed in the knowledge that they are achievable and will contribute to an overall positive and healthy wellbeing. Many of these are things I started in the year just gone and want to continue to build on and instill.

I want 2019 to be the year that I continue to build a positive relationship with food
My history of disordered eating habits is something that has cropped up now and again on Yours, Chloe, but I don't think it's something that I have gone into in much depth purely due to the fact that I'm not quite yet ready. My eating habits and mentality surrounding food took a positive turn at the end of 2018 and I want to continue this in the new year.

I want 2019 to be the year that I stop apologising for my mental health problems. 
I've suffered from anxiety since the age of ten; we're talking nearly eleven years. And for those eleven years I've felt the need to constantly be apologising for my anxiety and I've felt a great deal of guilt for the effect I believe it can have on those around me. I was recently reminded that however hard it can be for you to see a loved one experiencing a mental health problem and support them through it, it is 100x harder to be the person at war with your own mind. So, I want this year to be the year that I learn that apologising for my mental health problems isn't necessary at all, my family and friends love me and will continue to support me whenever I need it.

I want 2019 to be the year that I embrace my own style
I'll be honest: I don't get most current fashion trends. Although I'm fully aware that saying this makes me sound like I should be ninety years old and sitting in a rocking chair with my knitting and an episode of countdown, it's the truth. Much of my style inspiration comes from more 'retro' periods; I'm a sucker for a 1940s land girl-esque tea dress and mini skirts that would have fitted in well in the swinging sixties. I do also like to mix the old with the new and pair, for example, a vintage blouse with some jeans, or a t-shirt with a beautiful classic skirt. In the past I've felt like I should try to get on board with the current trends and join other girls my age with shopping religiously at the likes of missguided, but ultimately it just isn't me. This year I want to embrace my own style and not shy away from wearing pieces I love, just because they're not part of the current trends.

I want 2019 to be the year that I begin to care less about what other people think of me
I'm being myself, following my own path in life and enjoying the journey, so who gives a crap about the opinions of those who don't play significant roles in my life. You shouldn't feel silenced by other people in any way shape or form so this year I'm going to focus on just doing me and letting other people deal with it.
